I Am Sooooo Going to Be Burning the Midnight Oil Tonight!

But you know what?

I am cool with that.

I brought home 3 work projects for the weekend that I wanted to complete.

I am going to be able to pull off two of the three, with the third one being completed tomorrow while in the office.

Again, I am cool with that.

I always think I can do so much at home on a weekend…but then my life butts in and I am like – Oh, that is right.  I have other things to do to be a completely well-rounded individual who has to do everything for herself because she has no partner! hahahaha

This weekend I have been in heaven, times ten.

I haven’t gotten so much done in my home in such a loooooooong time.

I moved into my new condo a month and a half ago, and to date, I hadn’t done much outside of the basics (unpack items needed for true survival).

But, holy cow, now I finally feel so complete and centered and happy since I have been actively making my place MY place.

This is the first weekend in such a loooong time that I actually left my home and drove anywhere.

And normally I LOVE DRIVING!

But with commuting daily for work in the DC area, which really is up there with the commute/traffic of NY & LA, usually once I arrive home on a Friday, I do not leave again until Monday.

There are so many great things that I hope to pull off for my home in the next few weeks/months.  I cannot wait to share!

And there are so many more great things I hope to learn in the next few years to further my career and shape my future.

Long story short, sometime you need to “play hooky” to bring your VERY BEST self to the table.

What A Week!

Most of it was good.

However, this past Wednesday, hump day, my blog post title was going to be….Who Let the BI…OTCH Out?  Woof, Woof, Woof, Woof.

I would have sliced you down to size, but only because I was pushed to my limits.

Otherwise, I am one of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet!  hahaha

We have been without a receptionist at work since December 26, 20017.

So that makes me triple busy, because my job is pretty demanding in the first place.

I can handle my job, but add-on another job and uh, stand back, sooner or later, mama is going to BLOW!

If one of the accountants had not graciously offered, of her own free will, to help me out by sitting up front and  helping with the phones, I am pretty sure I would be sitting in jail right about now.

Two other people on staff also offered up their help, one was a CPA and the other was my surrogate bro-in-law, which makes him that much cooler.

I accepted all three co-workers help and now they are on my *Wow, thanks for stepping list*.

Fast forward to Friday, the huge surprise for the staff that I previously spoke about in another post, HELLO BOWLING PARTY!

To my knowledge, for the first time in my company’s 52 year history, they closed the office at 12:30 pm, at the on set of tax season, on a work day, to take all of us bowling.  UM.  Holy WOW!!

Check it out…

You see those two smiling people?

One would be my boss, and the other would be the new receptionist we just hired on Thursday.

BOTH would be the BEST DAMN BOWLERS in the firm.  Dah.  Hence the smiles!

I personally sucked.  For real.

I was the worst bowler IN THE ENTIRE firm.

Note to self – only pick or suggest activities in which I will excel!!!  For real!!!

Next time, we are SO swimming laps or ice skating or doing hot yoga…or something that takes everyone else out of their comfort zone, yet, something in which I can own. hahahaha

For the record, our 3rd set of bowling, in which we only had 3 minutes left to play (of course!), I held my own thank you very much.

I honestly do not recall bowling so poorly in the past.

Um.  Granted, I may or may not have been drinking in past bowling experiences.

What?

Yeah, I am so not a party girl (only in my dreams baby!).

But I am a, um, Ok, if that takes the edge off (legally, of course!), I am in!

But still, I certainly would NOT have suggested something I totally suck at as a team building event!!!

My ego is too fragile!  hahaha

Fast forward to today, Saturday.

Much to some people’s disappointment and/or surprise in our company (cuz I got a few texts, emails & “alarms”)…I was not at work for our first day of Saturday office hours.

#1 I gave my bosses the heads up, I came in way early and took some work home to do over the weekend.

#2 Admin don’t normally start pulling Saturday shifts until early March.

#3 I am already doing some work from home early mornings or in the evenings after work remotely, AND I have already stayed late 3 of the last 5 days this past week to make sure things got done.

I don’t mind either.

BUT, I do however get a little (read A LOT times ten) bit perturbed when anyone thinks I am not a team player or that I am off goofing off.

Please.

And that was so said with a huge amount of eye rolling and attitude.

Currently, I am putting in more time and effort than I normally need to do so soon.  And, pretty much more effort than most in the firm at present.

The accountants will soon be CRAZY busy for a good bit of time, and then I am due to be CRAZY busy to pull the rest of it off.

However, this year, I have been CRAZY busy since the receptionist resigned, and…I am STILL due to be CRAZY busy to pull the rest of the tax season off.

I have NO problems with working hard.  None at all.

Especially since I have no life at present outside of work.  Sad. But true.  BUT.  One day it will pay off!  I just know it.  hahaha

I sincerely am trying to figure out how to remain “on” for 4 months straight.

So.  Today.  Although I did resolve a few things at work remotely….I was all about me and my home.

My home.

Which I LOVE.

And I have so much gratitude for one person in particular. (#ThankYou).

My home today, was the apple of my eye, and I about killed myself trying to fixing it up today.

For real.

Check out these bruises…

I am one of those fools who prefers to……”God Bless America, I can do this by myself!!!!”

Except when it comes to my motorcycle, then my SBIL (surrogate bro-in law) can take care of things.

Yes.  I look like I have been beaten.

No.  These bruises will not be gone by Monday when I go back to work.

Yes.  I typically wear short sleeve or sleeveless shirts because I get pretty hot running around.

Oh well.  I have no man in my life currently, so these horrible bruises cannot be mistaken for abuse.

Check this out!

This is what I bought, a console turn dinning room table, as I work on the whole multi-functional furniture to maximize my space since I own a 1 bedroom condo that I love and want to get the most use out of my space…

Um.  I do not  know if you caught on, but I did NOT pay attention to the dimensions of the table because this looked pretty small since it “only seated 2.”

Lie.

Hence the bruises!

When the UPS (a very, very little young woman) courier delivered my package at work (because I am not sure of my home delivery options as of yet) , I said, for real, What the f*ck is that??!!

I then did say, I am very sorry for my language, BUT SERIOUSLY, what the f*ck is that??!!!

I honestly thought a mistake had been made.

So much so that I did not even open the package until Saturday when I stopped in at work to gathering things to take home.

I really thought a mistake had been made and that huge @ss box was so going back to sender!

I unwrapped my larger than life package and to my surprise and pain (please see previous bruises) …

I found EXACTLY what I had ordered, which now resides in my home nicely (yet painfully).

Check this out…

(A). OMG it works out so nicely.

(B) At present this is resting/holding place and not the end result.

Other home projects currently reside above and below the painfully owned console/table that in fact does not comfortable seat two, but holy moly, seriously it could freaking seat SIX thank you very much. hahahaha

I am going to rest now.

Lots to do for work.

For both my home and for work.

But seriously, in this moment in time….I am truly *happy*.

I was able to focus on my home today.

My haven & heaven. ❤

All I can say is…..

Thank you.

Ouch.

And it is about time!!! hahahaha

When mama is happy and grounded, she has so much more to give (true for any individual)!

California Dreamin’

In about 2 hours, I was due to jump on a plane and fly out to California to see my sis and fam for the weekend!

Crazy, I know.

I was going to take the red eye back – land about 5:30 am on Monday – rush home, shower, change and head into work like – What?  I’ve got this, no big deal. hahahaha

Sadly, the receptionist at my firm resigned on Wednesday of this week due to health reasons, after already being out for a week and a half.

Um.  Yes.  This would be occurring at the on set of  the 2018 tax season.

Her position is…..my right hand person.

I wish her well and then some.  Really!

But holy moly, that puts me in a very tough and demanding position for the next few months.

Such is life.

I/We will survive and thrive!

I rescheduled my trip to see my sis and peeps to June 2018 when the kids are out of school and we can spend some major fun time together!

By the way, I have already booked and paid for the flight.  I do not care who resigns when, what or where, we will figure something out because mama jets in June.

I am going to California in June for two reasons: (a) I already deserve it and will deserve it even more on the other side of this tax season AND (b) family is so important and I am going to love on mine.  In person.

However, let’s back this truck up and give credit where credit is due.

I threw out an idea for our tax season kickoff and to my surprise and delight, my bosses heartily agreed.

Not only that, but the office will be closing early one work day for this absolutely amazing fun kickoff event!  I certainly did not see that one coming.

I love *happy* surprises.

After all, we all really pretty much be living together at work until April 2018…..when the glorious tax deadline finally arrives….and then, hello, we are back to getting off at noon on Fridays and having real weekends until December.  Rainbows in sight!

At present, I can not say any more about this mind blowing surprise because this article will appear on my Facebook feed and I am Facebook friends with a few of my co-workers.

I certainly do not want to give away any info @ the surprise should they decide to read one of my post, yeah, for the first time. hahahaha  (You know that is how it would go down if ever they were to read my blog, it would be about this surprise. hahahaha).

My bosses are pretty darn cool.  For. Real.

It takes a lot integrity and business smarts to take care of your employees in such a way that forges fun, relaxed relationships that spill over into the work/team environment, aka we are all in this together, let’s get it done.

Bottom line….wouldn’t you like to work with people who you respect, as well as, enjoy their company, who you know will tow the line and get things done without totally grating your nerves?

Work relationships are what drive the ship.

I am very grateful to be associated with a firm that wants it all – both for the company and the employees.  Talk about win-win.

I leave you with these visions, ideas, thoughts…and of course ask that you send up warm wishes for me and my co-workers to make it to the other side of April 2018…..tax season……hahahahha

Be the change you wish to see in your work environment (not fluffy words, seriously works).

The Best is Yet to Come!

I Think I Am Going To Be Sick

Principles of Accounting I

Intro to Computer Applications & Concepts

Intro to Business

I just signed up for the first three of seven classes I need to earn a Bookkeeping Certificate.

And I just paid for it too.

I think I am going to be sick.

Would You Like a 2 Liter Bottle of Soda With Your Order?

Um, no thank you.

I know I have been complaining (bitching) about work lately, and I would like to retract previously aired complaints.

I complain when I feel frustrated, when I feel like I have given a lot and it seems to be going unnoticed.

I do not give to get and my work MO is pretty much work as if you own the company, while trying to keep some balance in your life.

I still have trouble with that second part. hahaha

As of late, my bosses (1 & 2) have made it more than worth my while to remain where I am doing what I do.  Wind blowing and appreciated beyond belief!

I really do work at a great firm, and I work for great bosses and I love what I do and the people I work with….with the exception of the receptionist whom, unfortunately, I hired myself.  Oh, and I still dislike my pain in the @ss commute. hahaha

As for my helper, I was told – She is a really nice person (and she is) and she is a great receptionist (and she is that too) but outside of that….she really wants to help, but….

Ok, so I really and truly thought – I can straight up train anyone.  Guess what?  Not so much.

We shall see what the other side of tax season holds.  She still has time to turn things around.  But that is an inside job. I cannot make you care about the quality of your work nor can I make you care about our firm as much as I do.

Speaking of which, yesterday, I made a point to show all of the accountants who have had to work on Saturdays for a month now just how much I care about and appreciate them.

I sent them an email about noon….

Subject:

Lunch is on me peeps! Enjoy.

Message:

I enjoy working with each and every one of you and I love my job and bosses!

1 Italian sandwich (for Boss #1)

1 Chicken Parmesan sandwich with light cheese (for Boss #2)

1 chicken, apple and something salad for (Co-worker who is specifically trying to watch their weight)

The rest is for all to share and should hit upon each and everyone’s taste!

Happy Saturday people and soon enough I will be working Saturdays AND Sundays and all will be right in the world.

Enjoy and I appreciate you, Happy Valentine’s Day Weekend!!

Lisa

I ordered and had delivered…..sandwiches, salads, multiple pizzas (to include veggie for our vegetarian), garlic knots and multiple desserts from Domino’s Pizza.

Boy they were all surprised!

And they were each extremely appreciative.  They emailed me separately to say thank you in their own way.

I love doing things like that.

And because of my bosses’ generosity towards me, I was able to.

They have been generous to the others too; it is not all about me.

But if you do something great for me, I am going to want to do something great for you that you are not expecting, just to say – Thank you.  I really appreciate what you have done.

From what I have heard, there is a lot of pizza left over.  So, I am going to reap rewards from what I sown. hahaha

Happy Valentine’s Day Weekend, I hope you totally surprise someone who has done something that has meant a lot to you.

It doesn’t have to be big, just from the heart.

love

Listen To Your Heart, Sharpen Your Mind & Pay Attention to Your Body

I was re-inspired to pick up my lifelong learning tendency again.

I’ve been studying audio books again since December 2015, because what else are you supposed to do when you are sitting in 2 hours of daily traffic to and fro work, you know that traffic you are not supposed to be sitting in because that was not part of the hiring agreement .

Sorry I digress, that is a very sore spot for me.

And that was complaining and bitching. hahaha

Anyhow, I have been studying audio book since December 2015.

The topics I have studied include: Inspiration, Spirituality, Health, Fitness, Self-Development, Money and Business.

I have purchased and listened to 47 books.   And some of them I have listened to many times over.

My focus for the last 9 plus months has been on business.

In particular, I have been studying extremely successful WOMEN and really taking heed in what they have to say.

One of the more recent studies was Nice Girls Don’t Get The Corner Office by Lois Frankel.

Boy did she give me a lot to think about.

She totally blew my plans out of the water by making complete sense as to why I will not get to where I want to go on my current path.

In March, I will be turning 46 and I thought I’d be making $100k by that age.

That may sound like a lot of money, unless you live in the DC metro area and you are the sole-provider for your present and future living conditions and you presently rent so your cost of living increase annually.

In my vision, the $100k didn’t necessarily have to come from one source.

I am not lazy and could work on the side doing bookkeeping or so many other things for others.

But with my current job, commute and maybe even industry – that is not possible.

Frankel pointed out that many women earn certificates or degrees while working but cannot move up where they work once they complete their studies because they have been type cast and are only needed for the position they have been hired to fill.

She also shared that the new norm for those who want to move up is to work for a company for three to five years, learn all that you can and do everything you can for them….and move to another company with a higher position.

Gone are the days that you stay somewhere for your working career, unless of course you have made it to the top, then by all means stay and reap what you have sown and enjoy!

I’ve been with my current company, two different times and positions, for a total of five years.

I’ve learned a lot, and I feel like I have given a lot in return.

Now I want more, but not necessarily more in the way of duties.

I keep getting more and new things to do at work and that is awesome!

Slight problem, these additions are on top of what I was already doing.

So.  That is where I am.

My heart says, I want and can do far more.

My mind says, I am open and keep learning.

My body says, girl, you better get me back in shape!  Don’t you know it helps in all areas of life to be fit and attractive?

My broken foot last year and my love for margaritas have totally dorked up my body!

My focus now, due to tax season, is doing the best job possible at work while focusing on body (fitness and health) too.

That is about all I will have time for until all is said and done aka Tax Day Deadline.

And then we shall see what I can do with the rest of 2017.

Thank You 2016

Facebook has this nefty thing.  They created a video showcasing your year for 2016.

I watched mine and was pleased.

You kind of forget all of the things you have done or experienced in a year.

I did the world a favor and did not share mine on Facebook.

After all, no one is as interested in my life as me.

2016 was fairly good for me.

Sad and low points…

I broke my foot and gained 30 extra pounds as a result.  I had my birthday off during tax season BUT only because I was at the freaking foot doctor’s office for a boot and later had to return for a cast.

That was the first time I have ever broken anything and it was quite an eye opener how much such an incident can effect one’s life.

I would prefer not to ever go there again.

My grandmother passed away later in the year.  I still cannot believe that one.  She had always been so strong and tough, and she had also been in my life for all of the 45 years of my life.  I really hate death.

On a positive note(s), um, I finally bought my Harley!

I also got to experience Go Ape Zip Line & Treetop Adventure not once, BUT TWICE, courtesy of the firm I work for.

I had never done zip lining before, and now I can cross it off my Bucket list!  And each visit was a 3 hour physical endeavor and so what I needed.

One thing I am seriously currently struggling with is my commute to and from work.

I live 13 miles from the office, yet I spend up to 2 or 2 and half hours in traffic to and from DAILY.

I also drive a stick shift.

It is painful.  Cramped foots and all.  And I will probably blow the clutches way before their times as a result.

Plus it drains the hell out of you.

This is a very touchy point with me since I wasn’t supposed to be stuck in traffic.

My agreement to come back to the firm I am with was that I could off-set my hours so that I would NOT spend my life in rush hour.

I mean I officially and specifically said – I do not want to spend my life in rush hour.

But such is life, that did not work out as originally planned.

I am not sure what I am going to do about this as of yet.

My sister and very a close friend suggested that I move closer to work.  I actually considered this and looked at some apartments right across the street from my office

Um.  They are crazy expensive.

But you know what?  I would be so unhappy living in Maryland.

I’ve tried it before and it just did not work for me.

In the DC metro area, you are either Team Virginia or Team Maryland.

I am team Virginia through and through.

So I am leaving all of that alone until after tax season.  With a new receptionist I would not leave before she has gone through a tax season and understands as much as possible about the firm.

I love my job, wanted to grow with this firm in particular, but the commute is killing me.

Others in the firm also have long commutes.  But they live far away AND they knowingly signed up for it.

I did not.

NOW.  On to a positive note.  I am super excited about this weekend!

A co-worker and I are going through a weekend motorcycle training course.

Yes.  It will be held during the COLDEST weekend of the year thus far AND it will feel like working full-time over the weekend since the classes will run Friday night 6:45pm to 10pm and Saturday & Sunday from 7:30am to 6 pm…

But still, WE WILL BE RIDING MOTORCYCLES!!!

Although I now own a Harley AND I have a motorcycle license and have had it for YEARS…

I want a refresher course to feel more comfortable with driving my said beautiful Harley out on the open roads with more confidence.

One of my bosses is so eagerly waiting for the day I drive my Harley into work.

Now there is a greater chance it will be sooner rather than later AND now I am going to acquire a partner in crime.

I will have someone to ride with!

And his wife wants in on it too!!  First as a passenger and then as a hell yeah driver!

Side note, she wants to be a driver now, but, good things come to those who wait.

Nonetheless, this my friends will be on the icing on my 2016 cake!

To hell with my horrible commute for now, this weekend I will be in heaven and I will be freezing my @ss off!

Happy Nearing the End of 2016!
