California Dreamin’

In about 2 hours, I was due to jump on a plane and fly out to California to see my sis and fam for the weekend!

Crazy, I know.

I was going to take the red eye back – land about 5:30 am on Monday – rush home, shower, change and head into work like – What?  I’ve got this, no big deal. hahahaha

Sadly, the receptionist at my firm resigned on Wednesday of this week due to health reasons, after already being out for a week and a half.

Um.  Yes.  This would be occurring at the on set of  the 2018 tax season.

Her position is…..my right hand person.

I wish her well and then some.  Really!

But holy moly, that puts me in a very tough and demanding position for the next few months.

Such is life.

I/We will survive and thrive!

I rescheduled my trip to see my sis and peeps to June 2018 when the kids are out of school and we can spend some major fun time together!

By the way, I have already booked and paid for the flight.  I do not care who resigns when, what or where, we will figure something out because mama jets in June.

I am going to California in June for two reasons: (a) I already deserve it and will deserve it even more on the other side of this tax season AND (b) family is so important and I am going to love on mine.  In person.

However, let’s back this truck up and give credit where credit is due.

I threw out an idea for our tax season kickoff and to my surprise and delight, my bosses heartily agreed.

Not only that, but the office will be closing early one work day for this absolutely amazing fun kickoff event!  I certainly did not see that one coming.

I love *happy* surprises.

After all, we all really pretty much be living together at work until April 2018…..when the glorious tax deadline finally arrives….and then, hello, we are back to getting off at noon on Fridays and having real weekends until December.  Rainbows in sight!

At present, I can not say any more about this mind blowing surprise because this article will appear on my Facebook feed and I am Facebook friends with a few of my co-workers.

I certainly do not want to give away any info @ the surprise should they decide to read one of my post, yeah, for the first time. hahahaha  (You know that is how it would go down if ever they were to read my blog, it would be about this surprise. hahahaha).

My bosses are pretty darn cool.  For. Real.

It takes a lot integrity and business smarts to take care of your employees in such a way that forges fun, relaxed relationships that spill over into the work/team environment, aka we are all in this together, let’s get it done.

Bottom line….wouldn’t you like to work with people who you respect, as well as, enjoy their company, who you know will tow the line and get things done without totally grating your nerves?

Work relationships are what drive the ship.

I am very grateful to be associated with a firm that wants it all – both for the company and the employees.  Talk about win-win.

I leave you with these visions, ideas, thoughts…and of course ask that you send up warm wishes for me and my co-workers to make it to the other side of April 2018…..tax season……hahahahha

Be the change you wish to see in your work environment (not fluffy words, seriously works).

The Best is Yet to Come!

That Is My Future Following Me Around

Yesterday I came this close to driving a Porsche!

This closes as in…my fingers are close together in the formation of a pinch without touching but as close as you can get without touching.

That is how close I was!!

This is my background picture on my work computer (and I have two monitors so that gives me and others double the viewing pleasure) and on my laptop at home.

Niiiice, huh?!

This is my goal.  This is a 2008 Porsche Boxster.  I am so not opposed to used if the car has been well maintained and has low mileage.

That is how I landed my Honda S2000 and was able to afford it.  It is a 2002 model and I bought it in December 2007.

Honda only manufactured this car from 1999 to 2009.

Back when I test drove a brand new yellow S2000 in 2006 the base price was @ $40k.  Um, I couldn’t afford that.

Also, that was the only time in my life up to that point that I test drove a brand new car.  By test driving it, I was visualizing my future.

And lo and behold, one year later, I got exactly what I wanted for half the cost and I have enjoyed the hell out of that car ever since.

In the office my computer background has caught the eye of any guy that has come into my office, even contractors who came in to do work for us.  They all know what I want.

One of my bosses with such sincerity said – Wow that is a really nice car!

I looked at him and said – Dude you could buy that if you really wanted it.

Those days have passed for him according to him.

Only one co-worker said – Dude that is so lame!

I said – What, why is that lame?

He said – Why do you need to have a picture of your car up on your computer?

I said – Dude that is not my S2000.  That is a Porsche Boxster.

He said – Oh.  It looks the same.  But in that case, nice car!

About a month ago, I was talking to my mom about resolving the issue I had with a garage that dorked up my oil pan on my S2000 (if interested, please see previous post).

She said – We saw the prettiest little yellow Porsche convertible out on the road today.

I said – Dude that is my next auto goal!

She said – What?  You are going to trade in your little yellow car and your jeep for one?

Me – Um, no.  I want one in addition to what I have now.  I tried to tell you guys, Jay Leno really is my hero.  I want a garage with these vehicles – My Black Harley, My Yellow S2000, My Yellow Jeep Wrangler and a Yellow Porsche Boxster & an Alfa Romeo Spider (color will probably be white like the last one).

People collect different things.  So I want to collect rides.

For me, I truly enjoy driving.  Except during rush hour.  That sucks no matter what you are driving.

All these vehicles bring me such great joy, and the feeling of freedom.  They are all convertibles and I love to feel the wind.

I have owned at one time or another and driven all of these vehicles except one – The Porsche.

It is not like you can walk into a Porsche dealership and say – Um yeah, I’d like to test drive one please.

However, it does one well to have friends in high places!

My other boss is looking into buying a Porsche 911 convertible or a BMW something or other convertible (I don’t speak BMW).

He has already test driven the BMW something or other convertible.

Now he is going to test drive the Porsche and in my mind it looks something like this…

And he offered to let me TEST DRIVE IT!

Holy. Bleeping. BLEEP!!

That blew my mind.

I will be happy enough just to see one up close and personal and to sit in it!

Yesterday was a false alarm.

The leasing agent could not find one in the area in time to bring it over to the office for him to test drive.

But guess what?

The test drive is going down on Monday!!

It gets even better.

God’s honest truth.  This is the car that drove behind me on the highway all the way home last night –

That has got to be a freaking sign!

Even if it is not, in my head it is!

I mean what are the chances?

And the damn thing was yellow!

I’d look up in my rear view mirror and think two things…..

That is such a beautiful car.

That is my future following me around.

Happy Valentine’s Day 2017!

Check it out!

Look what mama got for Valentine’s Day…..the plates I have been trying for years to get back….

Hope you have a fantastic Valentine’s Day too!

Would You Like a 2 Liter Bottle of Soda With Your Order?

Um, no thank you.

I know I have been complaining (bitching) about work lately, and I would like to retract previously aired complaints.

I complain when I feel frustrated, when I feel like I have given a lot and it seems to be going unnoticed.

I do not give to get and my work MO is pretty much work as if you own the company, while trying to keep some balance in your life.

I still have trouble with that second part. hahaha

As of late, my bosses (1 & 2) have made it more than worth my while to remain where I am doing what I do.  Wind blowing and appreciated beyond belief!

I really do work at a great firm, and I work for great bosses and I love what I do and the people I work with….with the exception of the receptionist whom, unfortunately, I hired myself.  Oh, and I still dislike my pain in the @ss commute. hahaha

As for my helper, I was told – She is a really nice person (and she is) and she is a great receptionist (and she is that too) but outside of that….she really wants to help, but….

Ok, so I really and truly thought – I can straight up train anyone.  Guess what?  Not so much.

We shall see what the other side of tax season holds.  She still has time to turn things around.  But that is an inside job. I cannot make you care about the quality of your work nor can I make you care about our firm as much as I do.

Speaking of which, yesterday, I made a point to show all of the accountants who have had to work on Saturdays for a month now just how much I care about and appreciate them.

I sent them an email about noon….

Lunch is on me peeps! Enjoy.

I enjoy working with each and every one of you and I love my job and bosses!

1 Italian sandwich (for Boss #1)

1 Chicken Parmesan sandwich with light cheese (for Boss #2)

1 chicken, apple and something salad for (Co-worker who is specifically trying to watch their weight)

The rest is for all to share and should hit upon each and everyone’s taste!

Happy Saturday people and soon enough I will be working Saturdays AND Sundays and all will be right in the world.

Enjoy and I appreciate you, Happy Valentine’s Day Weekend!!

I ordered and had delivered…..sandwiches, salads, multiple pizzas (to include veggie for our vegetarian), garlic knots and multiple desserts from Domino’s Pizza.

Boy they were all surprised!

And they were each extremely appreciative.  They emailed me separately to say thank you in their own way.

I love doing things like that.

And because of my bosses’ generosity towards me, I was able to.

They have been generous to the others too; it is not all about me.

But if you do something great for me, I am going to want to do something great for you that you are not expecting, just to say – Thank you.  I really appreciate what you have done.

From what I have heard, there is a lot of pizza left over.  So, I am going to reap rewards from what I sown. hahaha

Happy Valentine’s Day Weekend, I hope you totally surprise someone who has done something that has meant a lot to you.

It doesn’t have to be big, just from the heart.

No Shrimp for You!

Is what I wish someone had said to me last night.

I signed up to receive healthy recipes via email so (a) I could learn to cook outside my go to norms of chili and spaghetti and (b) I could eat better.

Last night I tried my hand at making Shrimp Scampi.

Those who know me know that I do not eat fish or seafood.

Every now and again I will eat shrimp.

After last night, it might be a while before mama ever goes there again!

I went shopping, even bought the fresh shrimp from the seafood counter getting all into Chef Lisa mode oh la la.

It tasted fine too.  Actually it was pretty good!  Shrimp scampi over pasta with a salad.

And then in the middle of the night, yuck.

I was quite ill.

And now even the thought of shrimp makes me gag.

If that wasn’t bad enough, I missed work today too.

How sad is that?

So much for getting my Chef hat on.

It was so not cool missing today since my bosses just paid for the firm to experience a Go Ape adventure this past Friday.

I put it together.  I was there.  I had fun.

And then Monday, um, I am sorry…I cannot cook and will need to be out today because I’ll be spending the day in the bathroom.

I am a decent cook.  I am not really sure what happened.

I did google it though.

“Can eating shrimp make you sick?”

Cuz it is the only thing I did different.

I did find that you can get sick from shrimp due to bacteria.

Who the hell knows?

I did lose 10 pounds from this experience.

Not really.  I wish.

But it sure did feel like it!

All I know is, I will not be having shrimp anytime soon and I sure as heck will not be eating any shrimp I personally cook!

This little bugger did me in and took me down for a day….

That is how I currently feel about shrimp and future shrimp cooking projects.

For The Love of Yellow

Kids love my car almost as much as I love my car.

I think it is because it is so small.  It kinda looks like a matchbox car when next to other vehicles, so I am pretty sure they feel like they could hop in and drive it right then and there without any problems.

Plus it is bright yellow and kinda gives off the vibe – Hello.

Actually adults like it too.

Female, male, young, old – it doesn’t matter.

I’ve spent many a 20 minutes talking to complete strangers because they strike up a conversation about my Honda S2000.

Freedom, fun, cute and happy are commonly used when they are conveying what it must feel like to own and drive such a car.

Closer to home I have an extra special little friend.

One day last fall a guy got on the elevator with me and said – My daughter loves your car. He then proceeded to show me a picture on his iPhone of her hugging it.

Talk about making me happy. He said she hugs my car every day.

I couldn’t help but to think (a) note to self – keep it clean and (b) it is a good thing that doesn’t set off the alarm because that would scare the tar out of her because it is LOUD.

The family parked next to my car whenever possible because she wanted to be close to it.

Then last October I got my yellow jeep wrangler and I park my cars together.

One day, again on the elevator, the dad asked me – Is that your yellow jeep next to your yellow S2000?

I said – Yes.

He then shared – NOW my daughter thinks you are the COOLEST person ever!

I see the family often, and we exchange hellos.

If I am parking my car or jeep and our vehicles pass, the daughter waves to me and I wave back.

But last night, I got the best news so far ever from my friendly family.

The father and his two daughters got on the elevator with me.

He said – You know, we just got a yellow car ourselves.

I said – Really? May I see it?

He got out his iPhone and showed me this –

For The Love of Yellow

That is the best thing ever!  And the blurry little girl, that’s my fan.

It is not a very good picture because I was taking a picture of a picture that was on his iPhone in the elevator and we were rushing because our floor was coming up.

But it totally made my day to think that my car and jeep inspired this little girl to go out and get her own little yellow car.

I think I fell asleep last night with the biggest smile on my face because it really made my day.

Life is funny like that.  When you least expect it, you receive a lovely little surprise that makes your day totally great.

And connecting with others, over something as simple as a car, priceless.

My Bummed Foot. I’ll Take It!

Last Tuesday I ushered in my birthday in a setting that I haven’t been in since my actual birth day, in the presence of a doctor.

I seem to have dorked up my foot.

This is my foot the night before my birthday…

Exhibit A: The Foot

The Foot

My foot got that big both Sunday and Monday night because I was working and it is tax season, which means I have to move around to get stuff done.

I cried myself to sleep both of those nights because it hurt so badly. So badly that at times I seriously thought my foot would explode.

The previous Friday I had gone to my regular doctor and she sent me to the hospital to have x-rays done.

Nothing was found so she told me to rest, ice it, elevate it, and stay off it as much as I could. She also told me to come back in a week if it hadn’t gotten any better.

Fast forward two days later, Sunday night, Exhibit A above, and I would say that things were going downhill fast.

First thing Monday morning I found and made an appointment with a podiatrist. The earliest they could see me was first thing Tuesday morning (aka my birthday).

I went and they did x-rays too. The doctor couldn’t find anything either so he sent me to get an MRI. Although he couldn’t find anything, he saw my foot in all of its glory and knew something was wrong.

They wrapped my foot in a soft cast and ace bandages and put a huge boot on it (which I am still wearing to this day and might have to for the next TWO MONTHS).

Exhibit B: The Boot

The Boot

Tuesday, my birthday, which I keep saying because it is so not fair this was all going down on my birthday, the only good thing about that day was that I was required to stay home and rest.

I had the MRI done Wednesday morning. It showed that I have a break running left to right in my 3rd metatarsal. Check out the diagram.

Exhibit C: The Foot Diagram

Now. I have never broken anything. And this is slight versus a broken arm or leg or something.

But let me tell you. It still is uncomfortable and really gets in the way of business as usual.

No FitBit challenges. Difficulty driving. Walking funny and dorking up my hip(s) alignment.

And let’s not even talk about how long it takes me to shower or how I have to do yoga in the shower trying to keep my leg dry just to get clean.

It has only been a week and I am done.

Yesterday at work I was having a smoke. Taking a break for a sec. Thinking about how much this sucked and how badly I wanted to be back to normal.

I saw a couple walking into a restaurant.

The man had one of his legs amputated above the knee and was walking with hand crutches.

In that moment in time I told God – I am good. I’ll take me bummed foot and work with it!

So no more complaining for me.

Currently I am inconvenienced.

But this is not permanent.

And for that I am TRULY grateful.
