Um, no thank you.
I know I have been complaining (bitching) about work lately, and I would like to retract previously aired complaints.
I complain when I feel frustrated, when I feel like I have given a lot and it seems to be going unnoticed.
I do not give to get and my work MO is pretty much work as if you own the company, while trying to keep some balance in your life.
I still have trouble with that second part. hahaha
As of late, my bosses (1 & 2) have made it more than worth my while to remain where I am doing what I do. Wind blowing and appreciated beyond belief!
I really do work at a great firm, and I work for great bosses and I love what I do and the people I work with….with the exception of the receptionist whom, unfortunately, I hired myself. Oh, and I still dislike my pain in the @ss commute. hahaha
As for my helper, I was told – She is a really nice person (and she is) and she is a great receptionist (and she is that too) but outside of that….she really wants to help, but….
Ok, so I really and truly thought – I can straight up train anyone. Guess what? Not so much.
We shall see what the other side of tax season holds. She still has time to turn things around. But that is an inside job. I cannot make you care about the quality of your work nor can I make you care about our firm as much as I do.
Speaking of which, yesterday, I made a point to show all of the accountants who have had to work on Saturdays for a month now just how much I care about and appreciate them.
I sent them an email about noon….
Lunch is on me peeps! Enjoy.
I enjoy working with each and every one of you and I love my job and bosses!
1 Italian sandwich (for Boss #1)
1 Chicken Parmesan sandwich with light cheese (for Boss #2)
1 chicken, apple and something salad for (Co-worker who is specifically trying to watch their weight)
The rest is for all to share and should hit upon each and everyone’s taste!
Happy Saturday people and soon enough I will be working Saturdays AND Sundays and all will be right in the world.
Enjoy and I appreciate you, Happy Valentine’s Day Weekend!!
I ordered and had delivered…..sandwiches, salads, multiple pizzas (to include veggie for our vegetarian), garlic knots and multiple desserts from Domino’s Pizza.
Boy they were all surprised!
And they were each extremely appreciative. They emailed me separately to say thank you in their own way.
I love doing things like that.
And because of my bosses’ generosity towards me, I was able to.
They have been generous to the others too; it is not all about me.
But if you do something great for me, I am going to want to do something great for you that you are not expecting, just to say – Thank you. I really appreciate what you have done.
From what I have heard, there is a lot of pizza left over. So, I am going to reap rewards from what I sown. hahaha
Happy Valentine’s Day Weekend, I hope you totally surprise someone who has done something that has meant a lot to you.
It doesn’t have to be big, just from the heart.
Is what I wish someone had said to me last night.
I signed up to receive healthy recipes via email so (a) I could learn to cook outside my go to norms of chili and spaghetti and (b) I could eat better.
Last night I tried my hand at making Shrimp Scampi.
Those who know me know that I do not eat fish or seafood.
Every now and again I will eat shrimp.
After last night, it might be a while before mama ever goes there again!
I went shopping, even bought the fresh shrimp from the seafood counter getting all into Chef Lisa mode oh la la.
It tasted fine too. Actually it was pretty good! Shrimp scampi over pasta with a salad.
And then in the middle of the night, yuck.
I was quite ill.
And now even the thought of shrimp makes me gag.
If that wasn’t bad enough, I missed work today too.
BECAUSE OF MY OWN COOKING!
How sad is that?
So much for getting my Chef hat on.
It was so not cool missing today since my bosses just paid for the firm to experience a Go Ape adventure this past Friday.
I put it together. I was there. I had fun.
And then Monday, um, I am sorry…I cannot cook and will need to be out today because I’ll be spending the day in the bathroom.
I am a decent cook. I am not really sure what happened.
I did google it though.
“Can eating shrimp make you sick?”
Cuz it is the only thing I did different.
I did find that you can get sick from shrimp due to bacteria.
Who the hell knows?
I did lose 10 pounds from this experience.
Not really. I wish.
But it sure did feel like it!
All I know is, I will not be having shrimp anytime soon and I sure as heck will not be eating any shrimp I personally cook!
This little bugger did me in and took me down for a day….
“I WILL NEVER FORGIVE YOU!!”
That is how I currently feel about shrimp and future shrimp cooking projects.
Kids love my car almost as much as I love my car.
I think it is because it is so small. It kinda looks like a matchbox car when next to other vehicles, so I am pretty sure they feel like they could hop in and drive it right then and there without any problems.
Plus it is bright yellow and kinda gives off the vibe – Hello.
Actually adults like it too.
Female, male, young, old – it doesn’t matter.
I’ve spent many a 20 minutes talking to complete strangers because they strike up a conversation about my Honda S2000.
Freedom, fun, cute and happy are commonly used when they are conveying what it must feel like to own and drive such a car.
Closer to home I have an extra special little friend.
One day last fall a guy got on the elevator with me and said – My daughter loves your car. He then proceeded to show me a picture on his iPhone of her hugging it.
Talk about making me happy. He said she hugs my car every day.
I couldn’t help but to think (a) note to self – keep it clean and (b) it is a good thing that doesn’t set off the alarm because that would scare the tar out of her because it is LOUD.
The family parked next to my car whenever possible because she wanted to be close to it.
Then last October I got my yellow jeep wrangler and I park my cars together.
One day, again on the elevator, the dad asked me – Is that your yellow jeep next to your yellow S2000?
I said – Yes.
He then shared – NOW my daughter thinks you are the COOLEST person ever!
I see the family often, and we exchange hellos.
If I am parking my car or jeep and our vehicles pass, the daughter waves to me and I wave back.
But last night, I got the best news so far ever from my friendly family.
The father and his two daughters got on the elevator with me.
He said – You know, we just got a yellow car ourselves.
I said – Really? May I see it?
He got out his iPhone and showed me this –
That is the best thing ever! And the blurry little girl, that’s my fan.
It is not a very good picture because I was taking a picture of a picture that was on his iPhone in the elevator and we were rushing because our floor was coming up.
But it totally made my day to think that my car and jeep inspired this little girl to go out and get her own little yellow car.
I think I fell asleep last night with the biggest smile on my face because it really made my day.
Life is funny like that. When you least expect it, you receive a lovely little surprise that makes your day totally great.
And connecting with others, over something as simple as a car, priceless.
Last Tuesday I ushered in my birthday in a setting that I haven’t been in since my actual birth day, in the presence of a doctor.
I seem to have dorked up my foot.
This is my foot the night before my birthday…
Exhibit A: The Foot
My foot got that big both Sunday and Monday night because I was working and it is tax season, which means I have to move around to get stuff done.
I cried myself to sleep both of those nights because it hurt so badly. So badly that at times I seriously thought my foot would explode.
The previous Friday I had gone to my regular doctor and she sent me to the hospital to have x-rays done.
Nothing was found so she told me to rest, ice it, elevate it, and stay off it as much as I could. She also told me to come back in a week if it hadn’t gotten any better.
Fast forward two days later, Sunday night, Exhibit A above, and I would say that things were going downhill fast.
First thing Monday morning I found and made an appointment with a podiatrist. The earliest they could see me was first thing Tuesday morning (aka my birthday).
I went and they did x-rays too. The doctor couldn’t find anything either so he sent me to get an MRI. Although he couldn’t find anything, he saw my foot in all of its glory and knew something was wrong.
They wrapped my foot in a soft cast and ace bandages and put a huge boot on it (which I am still wearing to this day and might have to for the next TWO MONTHS).
Exhibit B: The Boot
Tuesday, my birthday, which I keep saying because it is so not fair this was all going down on my birthday, the only good thing about that day was that I was required to stay home and rest.
I had the MRI done Wednesday morning. It showed that I have a break running left to right in my 3rd metatarsal. Check out the diagram.
Exhibit C: The Foot Diagram
Now. I have never broken anything. And this is slight versus a broken arm or leg or something.
But let me tell you. It still is uncomfortable and really gets in the way of business as usual.
No FitBit challenges. Difficulty driving. Walking funny and dorking up my hip(s) alignment.
And let’s not even talk about how long it takes me to shower or how I have to do yoga in the shower trying to keep my leg dry just to get clean.
It has only been a week and I am done.
Yesterday at work I was having a smoke. Taking a break for a sec. Thinking about how much this sucked and how badly I wanted to be back to normal.
I saw a couple walking into a restaurant.
The man had one of his legs amputated above the knee and was walking with hand crutches.
In that moment in time I told God – I am good. I’ll take me bummed foot and work with it!
So no more complaining for me.
Currently I am inconvenienced.
But this is not permanent.
And for that I am TRULY grateful.
I don’t know how the winter is going in your neck of the woods, but in mine, Holy Cow winter needs to move right along now!
As in goodbye, adios, see you later!!
Thursday our area was hit with snow, like an all day freakin’ snow.
And yes it is pretty, and it does seem to quiet life down for a little while.
Unless you are a newscaster, weather person, or snowplower, and then you are pulling 18+ hour shifts.
But hey, you signed up for that, I didn’t.
I really dislike snow when it happens during the work week.
And no, I am not clambering to get to work for the joy of it, although I do enjoy my job.
Tax season is underway, and it makes life a whole lot easier when I can get to and from work easily without fear, worry or concern.
Who needs that kind of stress on top of tax season stress?
Well it snowed so much on Thursday that I had to take a co-worker’s offer up to pick me up Friday morning.
I really didn’t want to, but only because picking me up was 50 minutes out of his way.
We agreed that he would pick me up at 7:45am since we were aiming to get to work by 8:45am, when the office opened.
Well along his travels I kept getting updated timetables – make that I’ll be to your place by 8am, then 8:15am and then….it keeping going until I received the final message at 9:02am….I should be there in 8 minutes.
That was my cue to tie things up and go wait for him outside.
And I waited and I waited, all the while freezing my ass off.
Seriously, my fingers went numb.
He texted me and said – Ok, I am sitting outside the leasing office here at blah, blah, blah Drive. Where are you?
Me – Um, I am freezing my ass off at blah, blah, blah CIRCLE!! You know, the address I sent you last night?!
Ok, so I wasn’t that rude, but I did tell him, um it’s blah, blah, blah CIRCLE.
And I did really say, dude I am freezing my ass off!! hahaha
While waiting during my 1 hour and 15 minute delayed pick up, I did do something productive.
I played with my cell phone trying to get a good selfie.
I don’t know how people can take good selfies.
I have been trying forever.
I would just like a few good pics of myself to freeze this point in time, no pun intended, so when I am 105 I can remember that once upon a time, sometimes, I had it going on!
I’d prefer to capture it in a selfie because I don’t want to have to go up to co-workers, friends and family and say, hey do mind taking a picture of me? Why? Um, just because. hahaha
So I think I finally captured a good pic or two that I will share in a moment.
Because first, I want to share with you something else that I discovered by way of mistake, as in I hit something on my computer and taa daa, I had a slide show of all the pictures I have taken over the years.
That was pretty cool.
And here is how good I am with discovering stuff, because for some reason as of late I am getting pretty darn good at it with anything that has to do with technology.
I noticed a small crescent looking moon symbol on my iPhone and thought, uh oh.
What if I pressed something that is charging me through the nose for something that I am not even using? What the hell does that thingy mean and why is it on my phone???
So I took my phone to the expert in the office, the 23-year-old receptionist and said, Help!!
Easy peasy she took my phone fixed it and said, You had your Do Not Disturb on.
Greaaaat. I’d be missing calls and texts (cuz now I am so hip and happening that I finally text), and be none the wiser if I hadn’t noticed that something on my screen looks a tiny weeny bit different.
So the moral of the story is…I accidently touch things on technical items and learn something new every day usually by SURPRISE!!!
Now back to the slide show because this was a very good surprise.
I am aging very nicely.
And by this I mean, slowly.
Check out my discovery, and if you don’t agree, keep it to yourself and don’t burst my bubble! hahaha
An old lady has got to have a dream!!
Speaking of which, later this month I am turning 44.
And I am cool with that until I think….Holy Bleeping Hell!!!! I am only 6 years and a few days away from turning the Big 5.0.
That is just too much to handle so back to my slowly aging dream that keeps me grounding in the I am not 50 yet baby(!!!):
And me, 9 to 10 years after the first picture….
My last thoughts on this winter and freezing my ass off yesterday, which obviously I did or I wouldn’t keep repeating it!
Well, it wasn’t so bad now that I can see just how much (as in not much at all) I have changed over the last 10 years.
Thank you Old Man Winter.
Now get the hell out!!! hahahaha
Last Friday I had my physical and a pap done at the same time by the same doctor.
A two for one special if you will that left me feeling pretty darn efficient knocking it all out in one visit!
This is the first time I have met with this doctor and she is awesome.
She was very thorough and spent a long time talking to me because I came armed with a notepad and lots of questions.
I asked her about my alcohol intake.
I used to drink a glass of red wine each night for a long time.
Then in the last couple of years I switched to margaritas.
Probably because my brother-in-law taught me how to make them, and to make them really well, hello new best friend!
I have one a night, maybe two every now and again.
But I also exercise and eat fairly well.
But I also smoke, which we will talk about later.
She asked me – Do you ever have six drinks in that time of drinking?
I said – Hell no! I’d end up dead on the floor.
She said – Then we don’t have a problem.
My question stemmed from not knowing how alcohol dorks up your liver and kidneys in your forties, and I’d like to keep those as good as I can since currently I still smoke.
Which led me to my next question – Do doctors smoke?
I have been dying to ask that question forever!
I mean they are human, right? And some of them, even knowing how harmful it is, have to smoke.
To which she reply – Yes some doctors do smoke, even though they have more information than you would ever want to know about the harmful effects of smoking. Doctors are human and each of us probably do different things that we know aren’t in our best interest.
I knew it!
Next I asked her to check a mole on my back that I have had every doctor since the beginning of time check, and it is still just a plain ole little mole that is doing no harm.
Then I asked her about birth control.
I am not currently on it, but then again I am not having sex, so all is well.
But I would like to be in a relationship and when that relationship rolls around, I’d like to be able to have safe sex – as in I have made it this far and momma doesn’t want no babies!
Unfortunately, again because I smoke, I cannot go on birth control when that relationship does roll around.
When you are in your forties and you smoke, you cannot take birth control due to the risk of having a stroke.
She then shared something that really alarmed me!
She said – Do you know who the most unexpected pregnancies happen too?
Me – No.
Her – Teenagers and women in their forties.
She said – Women in their forties think they are safe and cannot get pregnant.
To which I replied – I have spent so long trying NOT to get pregnant that my brain will still be programmed that way when I am 80!
Now she has put the fear of God in me, more than the fear she reignited about the smoking cuz she spent 10 whole minutes talking to me about that.
The good news is I can go on birth control the minute I stop smoking.
So there is a chance for a win-win here.
But for now, unless my future relationship dude is fixed, I am just saying no because of the fear of this:
And it would totally suck if I made it this far in life and then….well, let’s just not go there! hahaha
