Did You Ride?

Texting Convo…

Me: Did you ride?

Co-worker:  Don’t ask.  I feel like a total dumb @ss.  I brought my battery, helmet and tools today.  I got to your garage at 3:30pm with a big smile.  Then I realized, I did NOT have my motorcycle key!!!!  I slapped myself and left.  “Story of my life.”

Me:  And to think, I was upstairs sleeping and had one of your motorcycle keys. hahahaha

I checked.  He did not try to contact me to see if I was home to give him the extra key.

And with good reason.

I told him on Friday, I cannot wait for tomorrow.  I do not want to see or talk to another human being all day.

I’ve been busy at work, and I have no problem with that at all.

BUT, if I do not get a little me time alone, this is not going to end well for anyone. hahahaha

I never know when I will run into my co-worker or my co-worker and his wife in my parking garage.

He is storing his bike with mine for the winter because he does not have garage parking.

I have one of his keys if I need to move his bike, and he has one of mine because he takes (GREAT) care of my bike when doing anything with his.

We’ve gone out to lunch a couple of times where I have paid for his lunch.

He gets all up in arms, because I have learned how to slyly pay for the meal before he realizes what has happened, which provokes him to exclaim how he will never go to lunch with me again if I keep doing that!!

Co-worker: Why did you do that?

Me: Because you do a lot to take care of my Harley (Last weekend, he changed the oil in both of our motorcycles, and his wife stopped by Harley to pick up the extra oil I needed and paid for because she works near the dealership and it is out of my way to go there.  And yes, you can only buy the d@mn oil and oil filter at a dealership and not online. Grrrrr.).

Co-worker: I do not do any of this because of you.  I do it because I like working on things.

Me: I don’t give a shit why you do it.  I just need you to keep doing it.  It is about give and take.  You do stuff for me, I do stuff for you and yours.  It would get old pretty damn fast if you always do stuff for/on my bike and receive nothing in return.

Co-worker:  But you let me park my motorcycle in your garage.

Me: Whatever.  Shut up and eat your d@mn free lunch.  And take this to your wife.

Like I said before, I have been busy at work.

Last weekend I worked on work projects from home on Saturday and Sunday.

And, I ran into my co-worker in my garage on Saturday and Sunday as well.

We worked on things while his wife went shopping at the mall.  He is not pleased with that part and wants to find her a new hobby. hahahaha

Then a whole week of being busy at work, getting home each night a little later, and taa daa, here we are at today.

I worked from home 5:30am to 9:30am this morning, returned a phone call to one of my bosses (took only 3 seconds to answer the question but still ruined my not speaking or seeing another human being all day goal. hahahaha).

I made something to eat, ate, and then slept until 4:30pm.

I guess I was far more drained then I realized.

I could not have helped my co-worker anyway had he reached out because I turned my ringer off.

The new receptionist (who is awesome beyond belief!) has been feeling sick for the last three days.

I told her multiple times, if you are not feeling well, you need to take a day off.  If I get sick, you’ll be the one driving this boat!

She has since informed me ~ You CANNOT get sick or take any vacation days for a full year.

I told her ~ You’ve got until June lovey.  Then Mama is headed to CA to see her family (FINALLY in CA).  It has only taken me 4+ years and paying for 3 d@mn plane tickets to get out there!

Truth be known, the receptionist (who is a former Executive Assistant) will be more than fine.  She is such a smart, organized, personable and quick study young lady.

She may even replace me before I return from my CA trip to see my fam.

I may or may not have picked something up from being around her, sickness wise.

My solution is always ~ eat, sleep, recharge and only take medicine if really needed.

Hopefully on Monday, I will be right as rain.

I’ll work again tomorrow from home at some point because I get a lot done when I am alone, and we are approaching a January 31st deadline.

Bottom line ~ I do not care if my co-worker or my co-worker and his wife show up tomorrow in my parking garage.

I am not leaving my home.

Mama has officially extending her ~ I do not want to have contact with another human being, in any form, on Sunday either.

I really hope he remembers to bring his motorcycle key this time!! hahahaha

California Dreamin’

In about 2 hours, I was due to jump on a plane and fly out to California to see my sis and fam for the weekend!

Crazy, I know.

I was going to take the red eye back – land about 5:30 am on Monday – rush home, shower, change and head into work like – What?  I’ve got this, no big deal. hahahaha

Sadly, the receptionist at my firm resigned on Wednesday of this week due to health reasons, after already being out for a week and a half.

Um.  Yes.  This would be occurring at the on set of  the 2018 tax season.

Her position is…..my right hand person.

I wish her well and then some.  Really!

But holy moly, that puts me in a very tough and demanding position for the next few months.

Such is life.

I/We will survive and thrive!

I rescheduled my trip to see my sis and peeps to June 2018 when the kids are out of school and we can spend some major fun time together!

By the way, I have already booked and paid for the flight.  I do not care who resigns when, what or where, we will figure something out because mama jets in June.

I am going to California in June for two reasons: (a) I already deserve it and will deserve it even more on the other side of this tax season AND (b) family is so important and I am going to love on mine.  In person.

However, let’s back this truck up and give credit where credit is due.

I threw out an idea for our tax season kickoff and to my surprise and delight, my bosses heartily agreed.

Not only that, but the office will be closing early one work day for this absolutely amazing fun kickoff event!  I certainly did not see that one coming.

I love *happy* surprises.

After all, we all really pretty much be living together at work until April 2018…..when the glorious tax deadline finally arrives….and then, hello, we are back to getting off at noon on Fridays and having real weekends until December.  Rainbows in sight!

At present, I can not say any more about this mind blowing surprise because this article will appear on my Facebook feed and I am Facebook friends with a few of my co-workers.

I certainly do not want to give away any info @ the surprise should they decide to read one of my post, yeah, for the first time. hahahaha  (You know that is how it would go down if ever they were to read my blog, it would be about this surprise. hahahaha).

My bosses are pretty darn cool.  For. Real.

It takes a lot integrity and business smarts to take care of your employees in such a way that forges fun, relaxed relationships that spill over into the work/team environment, aka we are all in this together, let’s get it done.

Bottom line….wouldn’t you like to work with people who you respect, as well as, enjoy their company, who you know will tow the line and get things done without totally grating your nerves?

Work relationships are what drive the ship.

I am very grateful to be associated with a firm that wants it all – both for the company and the employees.  Talk about win-win.

I leave you with these visions, ideas, thoughts…and of course ask that you send up warm wishes for me and my co-workers to make it to the other side of April 2018…..tax season……hahahahha

Be the change you wish to see in your work environment (not fluffy words, seriously works).

The Best is Yet to Come!

Opening Up to Love in 2017

This is the year I’d like to open myself up to having a relationship.

I mean for real.

I have been single for 10 or 11 years.

Yep.  You heard me right. I am like a born again virgin.

I have had some dates over the years, but I have not been intrigued enough by anyone to want to do anything about it.

There for a while I even had the opportunity of being “Mrs. Robinson.”

I tried it out a couple of times, but it didn’t work for me.  It is not my style, although, it was extremely flattering.

I have become quite comfortable being single.

And it took a while, but now those closest to me are comfortable with me being single too.

I think that shift happened in the last few years.

It is just a given, Lisa is single.

Before my dating hiatus, I had two long-term relationships, back to back, with one year off in-between.

My exes wanted what most people want – marriage, kids, etc.  I didn’t.

There are other reasons the relationships didn’t work out, but the underlying theme was simple – we each wanted different things and envisioned different futures.

Both of my exes are married now, and I believe one has children.

I recently found out that my first ex waited to get married until the fall of 2014.

That brought me comfort.

He took his time, like I have.

He is the one that got away in my world.

I wouldn’t change anything.  Things did not work out for a reason.

But he is the one I have cared for the most in my life.

As for me, I have made a couple of false starts of maybe wanting to date again.

But now I think I am ready, now as in on the other side of tax season.

Last month I was extremely busy with a January 31st deadline.

I remember waking up one morning at 3:30 am thinking about work – I need to do this, I need to do that, this needs to changed and oh, don’t forget that other thing!!

And then I thought – Holy Cow!  I need to get a life!!

And that is when I started thinking about how nice it would be to be in a relationship again.

So on the other side of tax season, I will seriously get out, get involved and meet new people, because I could use more friends too.

Would You Like a 2 Liter Bottle of Soda With Your Order?

Um, no thank you.

I know I have been complaining (bitching) about work lately, and I would like to retract previously aired complaints.

I complain when I feel frustrated, when I feel like I have given a lot and it seems to be going unnoticed.

I do not give to get and my work MO is pretty much work as if you own the company, while trying to keep some balance in your life.

I still have trouble with that second part. hahaha

As of late, my bosses (1 & 2) have made it more than worth my while to remain where I am doing what I do.  Wind blowing and appreciated beyond belief!

I really do work at a great firm, and I work for great bosses and I love what I do and the people I work with….with the exception of the receptionist whom, unfortunately, I hired myself.  Oh, and I still dislike my pain in the @ss commute. hahaha

As for my helper, I was told – She is a really nice person (and she is) and she is a great receptionist (and she is that too) but outside of that….she really wants to help, but….

Ok, so I really and truly thought – I can straight up train anyone.  Guess what?  Not so much.

We shall see what the other side of tax season holds.  She still has time to turn things around.  But that is an inside job. I cannot make you care about the quality of your work nor can I make you care about our firm as much as I do.

Speaking of which, yesterday, I made a point to show all of the accountants who have had to work on Saturdays for a month now just how much I care about and appreciate them.

I sent them an email about noon….

Lunch is on me peeps! Enjoy.

I enjoy working with each and every one of you and I love my job and bosses!

1 Italian sandwich (for Boss #1)

1 Chicken Parmesan sandwich with light cheese (for Boss #2)

1 chicken, apple and something salad for (Co-worker who is specifically trying to watch their weight)

The rest is for all to share and should hit upon each and everyone’s taste!

Happy Saturday people and soon enough I will be working Saturdays AND Sundays and all will be right in the world.

Enjoy and I appreciate you, Happy Valentine’s Day Weekend!!

I ordered and had delivered…..sandwiches, salads, multiple pizzas (to include veggie for our vegetarian), garlic knots and multiple desserts from Domino’s Pizza.

Boy they were all surprised!

And they were each extremely appreciative.  They emailed me separately to say thank you in their own way.

I love doing things like that.

And because of my bosses’ generosity towards me, I was able to.

They have been generous to the others too; it is not all about me.

But if you do something great for me, I am going to want to do something great for you that you are not expecting, just to say – Thank you.  I really appreciate what you have done.

From what I have heard, there is a lot of pizza left over.  So, I am going to reap rewards from what I sown. hahaha

Happy Valentine’s Day Weekend, I hope you totally surprise someone who has done something that has meant a lot to you.

It doesn’t have to be big, just from the heart.

For The Love of Yellow

Kids love my car almost as much as I love my car.

I think it is because it is so small.  It kinda looks like a matchbox car when next to other vehicles, so I am pretty sure they feel like they could hop in and drive it right then and there without any problems.

Plus it is bright yellow and kinda gives off the vibe – Hello.

Actually adults like it too.

Female, male, young, old – it doesn’t matter.

I’ve spent many a 20 minutes talking to complete strangers because they strike up a conversation about my Honda S2000.

Freedom, fun, cute and happy are commonly used when they are conveying what it must feel like to own and drive such a car.

Closer to home I have an extra special little friend.

One day last fall a guy got on the elevator with me and said – My daughter loves your car. He then proceeded to show me a picture on his iPhone of her hugging it.

Talk about making me happy. He said she hugs my car every day.

I couldn’t help but to think (a) note to self – keep it clean and (b) it is a good thing that doesn’t set off the alarm because that would scare the tar out of her because it is LOUD.

The family parked next to my car whenever possible because she wanted to be close to it.

Then last October I got my yellow jeep wrangler and I park my cars together.

One day, again on the elevator, the dad asked me – Is that your yellow jeep next to your yellow S2000?

I said – Yes.

He then shared – NOW my daughter thinks you are the COOLEST person ever!

I see the family often, and we exchange hellos.

If I am parking my car or jeep and our vehicles pass, the daughter waves to me and I wave back.

But last night, I got the best news so far ever from my friendly family.

The father and his two daughters got on the elevator with me.

He said – You know, we just got a yellow car ourselves.

I said – Really? May I see it?

He got out his iPhone and showed me this –

For The Love of Yellow

That is the best thing ever!  And the blurry little girl, that’s my fan.

It is not a very good picture because I was taking a picture of a picture that was on his iPhone in the elevator and we were rushing because our floor was coming up.

But it totally made my day to think that my car and jeep inspired this little girl to go out and get her own little yellow car.

I think I fell asleep last night with the biggest smile on my face because it really made my day.

Life is funny like that.  When you least expect it, you receive a lovely little surprise that makes your day totally great.

And connecting with others, over something as simple as a car, priceless.

Friendships Have No Age Limits

Friendship is a beautiful gift.

What is neat, I can be friends with almost anyone.

Even more important, so can you.

I have a friend who is 23.

We went to Atlantic City, met up with some other friends, and danced the night away.

I have a friend who is 26.

We attended a SUP (stand up paddleboard) yoga class. We will also be going surfing and are working on doing a half marathon together.

I have a friend who is in her thirties.

We have experienced a trapeze class, done a Spartan race, run a couple of other races together. We have also taken a painting class, done numerous walks and hikes AND just learned how to grill out for the first time together.

I have a friend who just turned the Big 4.0.

As much as we have been able, annually we do the same 10k together. Although this last time I complained the whole way, when I could breathe that is.

I have a friend who is two years younger than me, my sister.

Best friend ever and 42 years of adventures together that is still unfolding.

I have a friend who is slightly older than my parents.

I spent the weekend with her and we went parasailing. We also shared great meals prepared by her, and wonderful conversations.

Speaking of parents, I am pretty great friends with them too! The list is way too long to share all of our experiences together here.

Moral of the story, friendship is a beautiful gift. They enriched our lives.  They make us flourish. They connect us and help us grow.

And friendships have no age limits.

Tax Season Did NOT Make Me Do It

I felt really bad yesterday.

I yelled at someone, and I mean yelled.

And let me just say, it takes a lot to have me yell at you.

There have been talks, and there have been unthreatening correcting behavior comments as things arise. But this one took the cake and I in no uncertain terms said get on board with this tax season NOW.

Later I sincerely apologized, not for what I said (thank God I didn’t cuss at the person) but for my delivery.

I got back from lunch and had a note and small gift on my desk, and all is well for the moment.

And we got a lot done yesterday.

I also apologized to my boss who was witness of my spectacular delivery, to which he replied (a) it was fun to watch and (b) you were right.

It still didn’t make me feel better and I hope to not do that again for a very, very long time!

My reaction wasn’t due to tax season and being tired.

My reaction was due to my work ethics and the works ethics I believe others should have.

Unfortunately I probably looked something like this, and I must say, that is not very becoming.

Ok, back to focusing on why I do the things I do and what I hope to gain…..after all, I can only control myself.
