Bouncing Back From the Ultimate Disappointment

I was finally going to drive my Harley Street 500 motorcycle into work today.

I planned it out.  I would be taking as many back roads as possible and only be on the highway briefly.

I was up very early too, so I could get on the road well before rush hour.

Once I made it into work my plan was to walk, walk, walk AND walk some more because I am currently in three different FitBit challenges.

I am winning the first challenge by a pretty good lead.

I am winning the second challenge, in this moment in time, by a slight lead.  I had that one in the bag too, until someone seems to have gotten inspired.

I am in 2nd place in the third challenge, battling step by step with the person who is currently in 3rd who really seems to want to be in 2nd place.  This same said person is also the one battling me in the challenge I mentioned above.

At this point neither of us has a shot in hell of winning the first challenge.

The leader of that one is waaaaay ahead of us.  I did tell her tho, let’s do this again next week and I will give you a run for your money! hahaha

From last Thursday to this Thursday I had a really crappy, stressful and upsetting week.

I didn’t talk with anyone about it, mostly because those I know would have said – You did what???  You said what??? Are you bleeping crazy???

Obviously, I was not in my right mind and I allowed bottled up emotions, disappointments and frustration to come bubbling out.

Rest assured all is well now, so no need to ask me about it. hahaha

But the ultimate disappointment is that my Harley would not start this morning and I don’t know why.

I have kept the battery charged (last time that is what killed the bike).  I have even shared my toy and had a co-worker over to ride it to juice it up.  And so he could practice his skills since he recently got his motorcycle license.

As I trudged back upstairs fully geared up, I was sooooo disappointed.

Then I started thinking, I really need a dude in my life to maintain my bike.  I’ll ride it and he can keep it maintained.

In reality, I just want someone to show me how to keep it maintained.  If you show me, I can do it.  If I read it, I am like, huhhh?

And then I remembered, hey, I have a credit for a motorcycle class and guess who are in motorcycle classes????

DUDES and TEACHER DUDES!

So I signed up this morning and will be training and doing drills on a Harley like mine on Sunday for 2 whole hours!!

And I sure as heck am going to try to sweet talk someone into helping me.

Wow. Thank You. AND I Got An Apple® iPhone® 7 Plus To Boot Baby!

I stepped away from work this weekend.  I mean like for real.

This is the first weekend in a month that I did not bring any work home.

My boss is at the Super Bowl with his son.  Pretty neat, huh?

Well, if the busiest man in the firm can take a little time to step away to enjoy life a bit before we are all living at the office, well I needed to follow suit.

I really needed it too – mentally, physically and emotionally.

As a result I have great news! I have been very productive this weekend, taking care of me things.

I am now the proud owner of four new (sports’ car) tires AND a set of rear wheel brake pads!

I took my S2000 in for the annually required inspection, and for the first time in my life, my car failed inspection.

Lucky for me, I remember how much it cost the last time I had to replace all the tires.  That knowledge let me know whether or not I was being taken advantage of, you know, being a woman and all.

Not only were they extremely fair, and threw in many discounts, they kept my car locked up nice and safe in their garage the entire time they had it in their possession..  Um.  They had me at hello with that move.

I have found my new mechanic(s)!  I got to be all up in the garage, like the good ole days.  I want to see and learn everything you can show me about my car, Jeep and Harley.

The only reason this whole experience didn’t stress or freak me out is because I had set aside some year-end bonus money I had received from my bosses.

Unlike four years ago when the Honda shop let me know that I would soon need to replace my tires…..but I didn’t have the money so I waited…..yep, it is a freaking miracle that I did not blow out a tire and/or crash my car with the way I was driving on those old tires.

It was mind-blowing when the mechanic showed me the old tires.  Yikes!

And my new tires, HOLY CRAP!  It is like driving on air.  The smoothest ride ever!

A bonus, I walked to the garage yesterday morning to pick up my car.  I, um, walked in 25 degree windy but sunny weather at 8:30am on a Saturday to pick up my car….it was @ a 1 ½ miles walk and it felt FREAKING FANTASTIC!

That is the first time in months that I have worn tennis shoes.  For real.

What used to be my norm (tennis shoes) had become flip-flops, and I’ve only been doing things that could be done in flip-flops. If I couldn’t do it in flip-flops, well, I wasn’t interested. hahaha

Not anymore.  Tennis shoes are soooo back in the game for me.

Even better, I put out a FitBit Walking Challenge, which kinda fell off my radar when my beloved FitBit died, for next week and four people have already joined me!

One other productive/awesome thing I did, I got an Apple® iPhone® 7 Plus baby!

One thing about me, I don’t upgrade unless I need to.

This new phone is only the fourth phone I have owned in the last 20 years.

The sales rep was like, WOW, you really are getting an upgrade lady!

I went from a 4, not a 4s, to the 7 Plus.  See.  I don’t upgrade for the sake of upgrading. hahaha

Not only is my new, beautiful 7 Plus iPhone the BOMB, but I set it up start to finish all by myself!

Mama has come a long way in the tech world in the last five years!

Now, I need to go take a nap, there is way too much excitement going on in my world this weekend people.

Oahu Hawaii Here We Come!!

Ok. First things first.

I miss the hour I (read everyone, but I am self-centered in this department) lost when we sprang forward.

So totally down with the fall back version.

It is now 10am on Sunday.

Rats.

I need more down time! hahaha

Second things second.

Yesterday I was to run/walk the Rock ‘n Roll half marathon in DC.

Originally it was the marathon to celebrate the end of being 44 and ushering in being 45.

Then I scaled back to a half because I wasn’t honestly training to complete another marathon.

Yes I said another because I have at least completed one marathon in my life time and like to insinuate woo hoo me.

But marathons are no joke.

The training and hours it takes to pull one off plus the marathon itself, yikes.

Now I didn’t bag the half yesterday because I couldn’t physically do it.

Nope. I have been Fitbit racing a 23 year old quite healthy and active young man for the last month.

Although mama lost each time, mama got as close as she could and pushed herself right well.

No. I didn’t do the half because, OMG, what a pain in the butt (read ass) it would have been to get my package and get to the race.

I knew from the start – don’t do this – I don’t like big races in DC because it is too much trouble to get there.

Note to self – listen to that voice that says, um no, pick something else.

I even had a beautiful and kind friend willing to mill around DC for up to 4 hours just to accompany me into DC and get me to the race.

Small problem.

They wouldn’t mail the race items to me.

“Open House” to pick up the race items was Thursday and Friday in DC.

For me, it was a 40 minute trek ONE WAY to leave work to pick up my race stuff and then another 40 minutes to get back to work, um, during tax season.

Not counting how much time it would take to grab my stuff, nor if there was traffic either to or from.

Screw that.

Instead. To usher in my 45th year on this planet, same said beautiful and kind friend and I hiked a pretty tough trail at Great Falls (at least 4 miles)!

We then enjoyed a pretty yummy Mexican lunch and got a mani and pedi.

Plus I got an eyebrow waxed.

SA-WEET and HAPPY ENDING OF 44 TURNING 45 INDEED!

Icing on the cake?

I am headed to Oahu, Hawaii this Christmas with my sister and her family.

Mama is finally gonna get to surf with her niece!!

I have waited 13 years for this event!

Hello love, I have been waiting for you!

So happy and so cool with missing my half now.

45 and surfing in Hawaii baby, SO DAMN COOL!

They Have An App For That!

Yesterday was a very sad, sad day for me.

I was FitBitless.

I had officially finally lost my FitBit.

And I was on a roll too in my FitBit group weekly challenge!

I was in the lead and had been pretty active since Sunday – 5 miles, 6 miles, 7 miles, 5 miles and then Thursday – zip, zilch, nada, and so sad lady go home.

Losing a FitBit is like losing a helpful and challenging friend, so, so disappointing.

It happened to two friends of mine this past year, but it could never happen to me.

Or so I thought.

Yesterday I felt naked. No FitBit to wear, my first day since June 22, 2015 going commando.

I was going to share that statement with someone yesterday and then thought better of it, saying naked in front of someone you don’t know all that well is, um, awkward.

But we are all friends here so – naked, naked, and NAKED! hahaha

I am only in a good mood because I found my FitBit safe and sound this morning.

And I only found it safe and sound and sooner because one of my FitBit group friends said – Hey, they have an app for that.

I learned something extremely important from this experience.

It is such a GREAT idea to have younger friends.

I was all prepared to buy a new FitBit.

So guess what I found out?

There really is an app out there to find lost FitBits!

In fact, there are several.

I googled (because Google is my very bested friend in the whole wide world, after my FitBit and iPods) – What app will help me find my lost FitBit?

I found two, both of which had 5 star ratings.

Really first I found one, paid $4.99 for it and began combing my house following a beep beep beeping signal on my phone.

It was a lot like a game of Hot or Cold.

You are hot (getting closer), hot, HOOOOT – totally cold and way off base lady.

My cats were following me around as I was following around my phone with its beep, beep, beeping.

After about 30 minutes and tearing up my house at the slightest of beeps I was getting frustrated (understatement).

Now I knew the FitBit was in my house from the get go, so that made it even more frustrating (again, very understated).

When I am in bed and falling asleep and realize that I still have it on and am too lazy to get up and put it in my purse (so my cat Mozzie doesn’t eat it), I take it off and tuck it under my pillow.

I turned over couches, shook the tar out of every blanket I could find, looked under every piece of furniture in case Mozzie had indeed found it and dragged it off somewhere and I still came up empty.

I became angry and found myself thinking – Those 5 star raters are LIARS!!!

I sat back down at my computer and hit up my pal Google again to help me find another app.

This was the apps last chance. If this didn’t work I was going to buy a new FitBit!

The second app again had 5 star ratings, and even better, it was free.

I was going to be so pissed off if this free app found my FitBit and the one I paid cold hard cash for didn’t.

The first app had me focused on my living room, that’s where I feel asleep when I lost it.

But the second app was fonder of my bedroom.

The second app didn’t beep; it had a signal bar to indicate when you were close. The more bars you saw the closer you were.

Another round of Hot or Cold ensued.

This time I tore my bed apart, shaking out blankets, tossing pillows everywhere and nothing. Rats (understatement). Empty handed again!

But then I got a brilliant idea to toggle between the two apps, using them both and TAA DAA – I found my FitBit!!

I had tucked my FitBit INTO my pillow case.

I don’t remember doing that. I usually tuck it UNDER my pillow.

I would have found my FitBit this weekend when I did the laundry, but $5 and one less day FitBitless was worth it.

So long story short, it took me an hour and it was quite frustrating (by this point, so understated that it is mind-boggling) BUT I did not waste the $5 I spent on the first app and my friend saved me from spending $100!

All in all, it has been a pretty good morning.

Oh, and I am in second place FitBit group weekly challenge wise so I still have a chance to win by the end of today even with having logged zip, zilch, nada, and so sad lady go home steps yesterday!

When Walking Just Isn’t Cutting It

I started using my FitBit on June 22nd of this year.

I still love it and use it daily!

If you notice, my mileage dramatically increased in week 8 to 42.60 miles.

That’s when I starting doing the Work Week hustle challenge with friends to see who could walk the farthest during the work week.

I won the challenge that week and I have been doing that challenge every week since then.

But guess what?

It is official.

I am overweight.

I mean like for real, my BMI says so.

I have never in my life seen the words Lisa and Overweight used in the same sentence.

But last night I saw it on my computer staring back at me and thought ~ Well crap, now it is official!

I already knew and have known that my weight is going the wrong way, but to see *overweight* in print, YIKES.

I am five foot tall according to my doctor’s office.

My healthy weight range is 100 – 115 ibs.

Since junior high school I have always fallen in between 100 and 108.

Only in recent years did I get to 115 ibs, and felt like it was the end of the world.

Facebook has this little thing where it shows you your memories on some days.

Well since 2011 I have complained about getting to 115 ibs and then I get it back down and then getting to 115 and then….you get the picture.

I now realize I would gladly, I mean oh so happily, take 115 ibs!

What the hell rover, I now weigh 138.8 ibs.

Holy smackadoodle!

And it cannot go up from here. It just cannot.

I know this might not be a big deal to others, but to me, when you have been a certain way most of your life and then within a year you manage to put on at least 25 ibs, wow it is life changing.

And not in a good way.

I never thought I could be here.

I mean I never thought it was possible.

Seriously.

Never ever.

But I am, so I have got to work with it.

I signed up for a marathon.

I joined a Ladies Running Group.

I met with them once so far.

I subscribed to Runner’s World so I will get a magazine in the mail every month, and I will feel pretty darn bad if I am not doing anything when I get said magazine in the mail monthly.

They even threw in a calendar and I will look at that every month next year.

Gaining weight and feeling bad about yourself is a vicious cycle.

You want to make changes, you start to make changes, you get discouraged by looking at where you are now and how far you have to go, and then you respond by doing something that isn’t going to help you on your new path but brings you comfort in the moment.

Until the next morning.

I am not good at solo hard training.

I need a group.

Even if it is just a one other person group.

The group I joined has a challenge going on the side similar to The Biggest Loser that runs for the next 14 weeks and we will be incorporating small changes into our life every week that I am pretty excited about.

It is a start.

And hopefully in 14 weeks this count will be lower….

Be Warned: Selfie Stick User in Training

Holy smack-a-doodle, I own a selfie stick!

I know unbelievable, right?

It is so unbelievable that the 16-year-old girl who sold it to me really did ask – Um, this is for you?

Yeah it is for me, that is how I roll!

And then I couldn’t figure out how to use the damn thing, so into my drawer it went.

Until I busted it out yesterday because I am documenting my daily fitness actions (much to my Facebook friends delights! Read: Um, not really.) as I work on losing 25ibs.

Needing to lose 25ibs sucks.

Being a weight that I have never been before, sucks even more!

But if it doesn’t go down now, it will only go up from here.

Um.  Not an a option.

I can truly sympathize with people who are overweight and working on losing it.

It is extremely frustrating, and can be downright depressing that it takes so long to see the changes you are working so hard to create.

Now, back to my handy-dandy new selfie stick.

I knew exactly what to do with my selfie stick; ask a couple of someones younger than me how to use it. Bingo!!

Speaking of fitness, I earned a pretty nifty badge from FitBit yesterday.

250 miles covered thus far!

And I have done that in just under two months.

I am pretty happy and proud of that.

Other great news, I will be working out with a personal training this coming Monday!

I am pretty happy and proud of that too.

But ask me again at 7am on Monday, since I am meeting him at 6am.

I might feel differently AFTER meeting with him! hahaha
